What is this kind of tractor called?

I was driving through the countryside yesterday and got stuck behind a very tall tractor/piece of farm equipment that was moving down the road. It was very tall, tall enough that an average sized person could stand under it, I remember thinking that you could ride a bike under it or maybe even a little car like a Mini Cooper or something. Four large and obviously tall tires. And it was a little wider than one lane but not by much, it was a little off the side of the road but not much. It had a rectangular shaped body that sat on top but I couldn’t exactly see the operator. What is this piece of machinery called and what is it used for? Thanks!

    did it have spray arms? It could have been a type of terragator which spreads liquid fertilzer or a high crop tractor.

    It sounds like your talking about a “row tractor” or “high crop” tractor.These are general terms for tractors that are used to harvest crops that grow very tall like corn.The height/size is needed to see over the crop and not damage it before it’s harvested.The tractor will tow the harvesting equipment behind it.
    If it had a long chute attached at rear and a wide sycle at the front it may have been a harvester(corn,potatoes,etc.)

    I was out in a rural area of imperial Co., California recently and noticed some bales of hay that were the BIGGEST dang bales I’ve ever seen. We’re talking bales bigger than a full sized van.

    Maybe this piece of equipment is used to pick up those monster hay bales.

    I live in a agrucultural area (mainly wheat and sugarbeet), and have never seen the vehicle you describe. The closest I have seen is a sprayer, this has arms (folded when on the road) and a high ground clearance so as not to damage the crop.

    Also, if you think that the new mini cooper is a small car, you ain’t seen nothing. Search “Mr. Bean” on YouTube and look at the real Mini he drives.
